A note: The area shown here is just above the "Licks" a canyon on Jenny Creek several miles long and inaccessible by cow and man but for one who likes to hop from bolder to boulder the entire way.

This spot being grazed is enjoyed by the many campers that frequent this area. The low grazing by cattle actually makes the banks "park like", reduces fire risk from the large fire pit located there and provides a measure of comfort to the camper in this rattle snake infested area. We kill an average of thirteen a year just working around our irrigation ditches and house.

Even where cattle graze regularly, willows have no trouble starting and flourishing as seen at right after a beaver trimming. New shoots start right up and are ignored by cattle.

    Here again we are shown a photo after the grass has been utilized showing no progressive stages of the grass through its many stages of its utilization. The incorrect message they try to present is that the creek looks this way the entire time the cows are present until they are moved out. Truly a complete fallacy. I repeat this point because they continually fail to show any progressive photos of the grass at its different stages. This purposely done to present a untrue conclusion by a photo comparison bearing a false message to the viewer.

    Secondly, is the omission of a minor detail. Just upstream from this photo unbeknown to the viewer had been for a number of years an established beaver dam.

    This section I am well acquainted with as it is part of our lease. The beavers completely cleared the gravel bar of willows the year before to build a common and impressive structure. Our own ranch produced 3 to 7 beaver dams each year and there were numerous dams between our ranch and the area of this photo site. A beaver will cut entire willow stands to the ground to build one dam. The purpose of this photo is to make the viewer believe cows are to blame for the willows not being there, here is an out and out lie as an examination of the willow stocks clearly show they were cut by beaver. To those UN-knowledgeable of the skeletal structure of a cow, let me educate you to the fact that cows have no upper front teeth! This makes it literally impossible for them to eat but the smallest shoots and leaves of the willow. Since the stand of willows in the first photo was larger than the one shown in the second prior to being photographed, the implication that cows did the clearing of 2" or greater willow stocks is ridiculous.

In the second photo the photographer tries to implicate that the management of cattle made the willows grow, when in fact it had nothing to do with it. After we made a report to BLM, our representatives and public that BLM falsely accused cows of damage caused by natures beaver populations, the beaver population mysteriously dropped all the way up and down the stream. The only beaver dams for awhile were around and on our ranch. The fewer beaver populations and lack of dam building activity allowed the willows to take hold again. Secondly, notice the camera angle again. The photographer gets close to the stream so to not show the dry area to his right. Purposely trying to fill the screen with green to make a greater contrast to the first photo. Notice that the photo was taken in early summer before the cattle were turned in. The trampled grass is from capers ...and photographers trying to get the best deceptive photo they can. What the photos do not show is that the grass in the first photo looks just like the grass in the second photo the following spring. Notice in their photos they never show the tall dry bleached grass that occurs in late summer if the grass is not grazed.

Below and to the left at bottom are three photos on our own ranch that illustrate the real reason for the willows being cut. Beaver cuts are unmistakable and show how BLM utilizes false information, photo angles (the above first BLM photo being taken so far away you can not see what the real culprit was) and misleading or omitted information for the sole purpose of deceiving the public to get what they want, which is control over as much land as they can to expand their bureaucracy. The more people below them, the more secure their own jobs.
